Programa Pau-brasil


This five-year, comprehensive conservation project for pernambuco was developed for the IPCI by Ceplac, an  agricultural and forestry research institute located in Itabuna, Bahia.  The program involves a partnership of regional institutions joining forces to carry out inventories and genetic studies, research propagation method, produce seedlings and carry of replanting strategies in both farm and forest locations.  Three years in development, the Programa Pau-brasil began in March 2004 with major funding from IPCI-USA, IPCI-Germany and IPCI-Comurnat.  For more information, please download our Programa Pau-brasil information sheets I and sheet II and/or visit the Programa Pau-brasil project website directly.

Pernambuco seedlings at Biofabrica, a Programa partner near Itabuna, Bahia.  Biofabrica produces hundreds of thousands of native tree seedlings for reforestation projects.
